How To Wear Midi Skirts

by Milana · 7 comments

They went from mini to maxi in no time, and while maxis are still very much happening, like seen here on Diane Kruger, it’s time to move to the middle! Midi skirts are thus very happening right now and even though the first thing that may cross your mind when you hear ‘midi’ in the same sentence as ‘skirts’ are older conservative women, keep your eyes peeled as these skirts just might change your mind!

How To Wear A Midi Skirt

Bring the maxi skirt to 2011 by following these simple style suggestions…

  1. Wear your maxi skirt with a simple tee or a loosely fitting silk blouse.
  2. Add a neutral leather belt to the look to make it cohesive!
  3. Let the shoes break the elegance and femininity of the look by choosing a chunky heel or a pair of masculine oxfords!
  4. Accessorize lightly with a long necklace or a statement ring.
  5. Add a hat or a pair of big sunglasses to add character to the look!

Love your styling tips here, Milana! I was a bit unsure about wearing a midi because I am short and have “athletic legs” (at least according to my grandmother), so I ended up buying a sheer one and then pairing it with a shorter slip.

I just found my midi pleated skirt and was wondering how to wear them, so this post is perfect timing. Can’t wait to style it now.

At first I kinda not sure about it. Being only 5 feet 2, I was afraid that I will be drowning if I wear one. But now that I know better, I like them (still love my knee-length skirt better though). Thanks for the tips.

I thought I’d have the same issue (I’m your height) but I bought a pair of platform sandals, it still looks awesome, height be damned. I get a lot of compliments on the look, don’t let your height hold you back, there’s always a work around.

There definitely is. I’m 5’1 and loving the maxis – but I do have to admit, I didn’t dare come near them at first. Short girls just need to try them out and they’ll see they work on petitie girls as well!

I am fairly average in height, but after a suggestion went for several semi-sheer pleated knee length linen/cotton skirts from Orvis, and have practically been living in them all summer. Substantial enough to wear sans slip/knickers, and machine washable, they are ideal for hot weather, and can be casual or semi-dressy depending on the top you choose.
