How To Dress In Your 40’s and 50’s – Stylish, Chic & Sexy!

by Milana

These days, being in your 40’s and 50’s is vibrant and exciting.  The way you dress should  tastefully reflect your inner youth and  personality.  There are many options to dress, but there are a few guidelines to follow to achieve the stylish look.

The Guide To Dressing Chic

Firstly, avoid things that are too girly, such as bows, ruffles, or pigtails.  If it would look wonderful on Pollyanna, it’s not going to look good on you, a mature woman of taste.  Secondly, avoid certain retail stores that cater to teenagers, such as Forever 21 or American Apparel.  These stores have trendy designs with the younger woman in mind, and most of the designs are not visually flattering for older women.

That being said, mature women can be stylish and trendy by having a few essential items at hand.  Having a well-tailored blazer is important.  A dark, neutral color, preferably black, will compliment any colorful top worn underneath, and can be paired with different articles of clothing.  Worn with jeans or a skirt, the blazer will add structure to any outfit, whether casual or dressy. Here is a smart casual outfit that can be worn almost anywhere. A bit of color here and there to brighten up the outfit.

Another essential must-have is a pair or black, straight-leg or slight bootcut pants with a bit of stretch.   Make sure it is not loose. You want to avoid the high-rise and tapered leg cut.  Go with mid -rise, which is right below your belly button.  The pants should fit well across the hips so they don’t look shapeless or dowdy. This staple will go with anything in your closet and can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with flats.  The black pants, in the right cut and fit, is truly a versatile piece.

For dresses, one of the most universally flattering styles is the wrap or the faux wrap dress.  The wrap dress comes in many different cuts and fabrics.  Find one that is flattering to you, preferably in a  slightly stretchy fabric with an interesting pattern, which is great for camouflaging imperfections.

Product Info

Your accessories add much to your wardrobe, and they  should compliment and balance your outfit.  If you feel the colors of your outfit is too dark, balance it with bold, colorful accessories.  Inversely, if your outfit has a lot of patterns, colors, or textures, stick with simple, monochrome accessories.

Whether you’re at work, running errands, spending time with your family, or enjoying an evening out, you can look your best at any age!
